Volcano: Etna (see Etna at the Smithsonian Institution website in a new tab)
Type: Soil Diffuse Emission
Description: Soil diffuse emission with high CO2 concentrations and salt deposition in the subsurface, causing poor plant growth and evenabsence of vegetation. Although no mud volcanoes are present in this area, some traces of sporadic emission of salty waters were observed in the past.
