Kos Kokkinonero 2 (Aegean)

Volcano: Kos - Yali - Nisyros volcanic field (see Kos - Yali - Nisyros volcanic field at the Smithsonian Institution website in a new tab)
Type: Soil Diffuse Emission
Description: Area with anomalous degassing with three large patches of strongly altered soil with no vegetation. A few small springs with acidic water (pH < 4) and bubbling gases form a small creek that originates from one of these areas. After long dry periods efflorescences and incrustations of sulfur and sulfate cover large part of the area.
